I was at the Cabellas in Hamburg Pa yesterday Pretty much all their big gun safes were on clearance. When I say big I mean the 6ft tall by 3 ft wide (bigger and smaller too) It looks like they are moving out last years models. most of them were a couple of hundred dollars less than retail. might be worth a trip to go look if you are close to a cabellas (if they all have the same sales) Yes, they are all gun safes, but I'm sure they can be modified to house whatever you want. (the shelves can be removed and replaced) If I had the cash and a place to put one, I would get one myself

Something like that could hold a fair number of either Lincoln pennies or green seal FRN star notes. Maybe I should run right out and get three of them.

There is a Cabela's not to far from me in Illinois. They almost always have some type of gun safe sales going on here. Of course their prices are so high in the first place, they could cut them in half and still be overpriced. I've seen similar ones at Menards for about half of their prices. Of course if you join the Cabela's club and use their credit card you get 1% of everything you buy towards purchases at that place. So if you use their credit card for everything, you might get a safe free.

If you plan to get one and live in a wood frame house you may want to check underneath and make sure the stringers that your sub-floor is nailed too will be able to hold up a large heavy safe filled with coin. You will need at least 2x12 stringers just to be on the safe side. I would not trust 2x10's to do the job.

If anybody lives near Birmingham Alabama, try Mark's Outdoors. He is one of the largest Liberty safe dealers in the country, He has some of the very best prices for saves I have ever seen.

Not sure how many times safes have been discussed but you may want to try the Search tab for Safes. Yes your right a gun safe is a smart thing for guns. Especially if you have kids, lots of friends coming over, have parties where possible drinking could become excessive or an ill tempered wife. However, remember that placing gun ammunition in the same encloser with coins may not be to smart. And never, ever place used shells in that same safe with coins. Many swear by just placing gel packs in the safe. Again, too, remember those only absorb so much moisture and then if the temperature rises, some of that moisture could be emitted. Just place the safe outside on a concrete slab, bolted to the wall of the house. For safety purposes hang a sign on it saying not a safe.

BUT see that is the problem. Most criminals would rather have a gun than a bunch of silly coins. This means your chances of a crook breaking into your house for guns is greater than for coins. Imagine a crook forcing you at gun point to open your safe and finding nothing but money.
