The last piece to my 7070 type collection is on it's way! A purchase from ECC. I should have it in hand by this weekend. Though I question whether or not this coin is problem free as I think the reverse has been cleaned at some point, I think it has tremendous eye appeal for a lower budget Seated dollar and a lot of remaining detail. What would you grade it?

AU55 or 58. Should be a nice addition to your album.

Johhny, not being able to grade, question though, does the rim nicks bring the grade down much?
Could it be that it is Ex mount, or are those bumps just normal wear?
Very nice coin.

I with bherring on this one. AU-55, maybe 58. Awesome coin and congrats on finishing the 7070. That's my current goal. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for this particular gem?

That's a really nice example! These are so hard to find in higher grades. I'd put it at AU-53 or 55.

Any cleaning (if there at all) doesn't seem to hurt the eye appeal at all. With these Seated dollars, some issues have to be overlooked IMO unless you want to spend megabucks.

That's going to look great in your 7070!

Ken

Thanks for all of your comments! I paid $514 for it from a ebay BIN. I emailed TECC a while back asking about cleaning on the reverse, and they stated that they don't believe the coin has been cleaned...so I'm not sure at this point. It may be an old light cleaning or an old dipping. They actually graded the coin XF/Au, which I thought was very conservative, and it seems the rest of you agree. I don't think the tiny rim nick will affect a TPG grade since it appears minor to me.

It has definitely had an old cleaning, I can clearly see hairlines on both sides(more so on reverse) so I am not sure why they told you it has not been cleaned. The cleaning does not appear to have been too harsh and it has retoned nicely. Positive attributes are a very nice strike and that it is priced at the EF level so I would say good buy regardless of the light cleaning

Very sharp reverse, though I agree it has had a cleaning.

I also thought it had a light cleaning when I saw it. XF is a good net grade, though. Its a nice piece for the money.

They said it had something to do with glare during the photography... I kind of doubt that, and am thinking they just didnt look at it rotating beneath a direct light source. Anyays, the fact of the matter is that most Seated dollars have been cleaned. Even many problem free slabbed ones have been cleaned. I decided I didnt care much since it will be an album coin anyways.

Beautiful coin and congrats! What's next?

I picked up a motto version of that series today. Now all I need is the no motto dollar and a 2 1/2 liberty to finish my 7070.

Received today. Here are some updated shots. It's definitely been cleaned on both sides, but I still like it. The toning is very attractive. I think I'm going to keep it for a while anyways.
