British 5 pence. Now if you noticed the year, 1990, name me any country that still uses silver in current coinages. No. Most of the world killed silver in coinages in the 60s.

Well, gxseries, the Mexicans tried it in the mid-1990's,largely as a result from a powerful silver lobby there: KM#553 (10 pesos) and KM#561 (20 pesos) are bimetallic with sterling silver cores, intended for circulation. The "put silver back in circulation project" was abandoned in 1995 and their circulating replacements (KM#616 and KM#637 respectively) are cupronickel-cored.

But apart from that, you're correct - silver was abandoned worldwide for use in circulating coins, mostly in the late 1960's. West Germany was one of the last; silver circulating 5 marks were issued up to 1974.

I brought several back from England which I picked up during out trip to Europe last spring.

amac44, I would offer you one, but I believe I have given them all away.
