Some collect all dates and mintmarks of a particular coin...as a set. Some collect all animals on coins from any country in the world...as a set. You could even collect a set of Jefferson nickels that end with a zero date...1940, 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000. Anything goes as long as you are enjoying your collection! Collect coins in the worst possiable shape/ It does not matter ( it all depends on what you want. Pick a coin like Roosevelts or Jefferson nickels,, and then just start building, it is sometimes easier to get the whitman coin folders and as you find coins from circulation ( I do not recommend using these folders for Un Circulated coins ) they should be stored in a better more protective holder.
