What would you all say is a decent price to pay for a 1799 or 1799/8 Draped Bust silver dollar slabbed as F(15)? How about VF(20)? How about VF(30)? I really don't want to overpay (and even if the coin is certified in those grades, but still ugly I won't buy it). Thanks.
$1800 for a PCGS F15 Draped Bust Dollar is a market correct price. I recently bought an 1799/8 ANACS VG10 for $1300 and they don't go cheap with decent eye appeal.
Your $1800 quote being a good price is heavily dependent upon the strike and eye appeal. Many of these are weakly struck and some are not attractive pieces. An attractive and well struck 1799/8 Bust Dollar in PCGS F15 is a good deal at $1800. Greysheet wholesale Bid is $1620 in F12 and $2400 in VF20 (Prices for the 1799 non-overstike are slightly lower).
My most recent sales are $2200 for VF-20, $2800 for VF-30, and $4000 for EF-40. I would say $1800 is certainly a fair deal for F-15. You are not likely to get a decent one in that grade for less.
