I've been a coin collector for a long time, but mostly foreign. I accumulate US stuff, occasionally buy a little. My coin collection is amazingly organized, I'm crazy that way. The only country in my collection that is not organized is the US. The other day I decided to finally organize this stuff. I found that I was amazingly careful getting all the circulation State Quarters in the first few years, but as the years passed, I had fewer and fewer. I had all 10 from 1999, 2000, and 2001, but I only got 4 total quarters from 2008, just 1 from 2009, and 0 from 2010. I also thought I might want to update my cents, nickels, dimes, and halves. I'm also short most of the Presidential dollars. I've got all the Sacs though, so that's something. Where might I be able to get nice stuff (not VF, but doesn't need to be MS65 either) without paying exorbitant shipping off of ebay? Is there a single source, or will I need to get these one at a time?

You could try the "wanted to buy" section here, Under buy, sell, trade. I've found that
you can get just about anything you want, safely and reasonably, here at CC.
Rest in Peace

Are you pocket change or roll earching.? I would think that with the billions minted you would be able o find most of them in rolls.

I would think roll searching would get you most of what you need at face value. I know I find AU/BU cents all the way back to the 80's in quantity, and back to the 60's occasionally.

if your looking for nickels, the entire jefferson series can be completed from circulation and the late date coins you are looking for can be found in high grades with relative ease.

I buy most of my common date modern MS stuff from a local coin shop. Usually have fair pricing, and added bonus of getting to see them in hand before buying :)

I have found that it almost impossible to retrieve unblemished coins from circulation. When I say 'unblemished' I mean coins completely free from bagmarks. I have just found 2010 coins in circulation without any wear whatsoever, even under a 20x examination gemcutter's loupe, but the bagmarks are always many. After examination such coins naturally just go back into circulation.

I do not collect modern coins for myself but I do keep on the lookout for other collectors. When this is happening, I just recommend that you just buy an uncirculated set from the Mint. Coins that go into uncirculated sets just don't drop out of the minting press and drop over a metre or more into a pile, they are collected individually from fresh dies, and go straight into packaging.

The problem is that from 2005 - 2010 the US Mint issued uncirculated sets in the pesky Satin Finish, which isn't really a true business strike.
