How do you feel about ANACS grading company? I know about NGC and PCGS.

Thank you in advance

First off let me say I am really disappointed in their new holders, but ANACS is good to have coins authenticated, ICG is good for this as well. If your coin is valuable, it is worth going NGC or PCGS.

Thanks maineman. I did some research and ANACS seems to be the biggest producer of graded coins and the oldest.

Correct me if I am wrong.

ANACS for me also. They have a tendency to be though on gold coin though.

PCGS will always get the best price for a coin, followed by NGC And then ANACS

I love ANACS. It is very accurate in authenticating and coins from ANACS are generally cheaper than the same one from PCGS/NGC. Personally, I don't care what the holder says as long as I like the way the coin looks.

PCGS is the most popular and respected, however ANACS has apparently gotten a lot tighter, although I feel they may have gotten a bit overly conservative and that's never good for the seller as it gives them less bang for the buck when selling.

I semi-agree with wheatguy....but I believe ANACS coins in the new holders will gain in popularity/price as people realize how conservative they've become..also I used to think PCGS was the top of the line but as I learn and read, I'm really doubting that.

All three have good and bad points. As previously mentioned PCGS currently holds the crown for popularity and resale value. But this was earned through years of being the most stringent. The new ANACs yellow holders, although aesthetically unpleasing to look at, represent a huge leap forward for the company in credibility. Based on just over six months of experience with them, any yellow holder would cross equally to a PCGS holder and may even upgrade. Their Variety attribution is top-notch also (NGC is horrible). This new ANACs business model is kind of a two-edged sword for them. It will drive away those who want marginal coins holdered for resale value ... ANACs will represent them for what they are. But if they stick with it (and redesign the holder ) they stand to surpass NGC and approach parity with PCGS. As the collecting community comes to realize the accuracy of yellow labels, they will gain in popularity.

One area that will limit ANACs success is the PCGS registry program. Lots of high end collectors have too much invested to contemplate a move to ANACs in the foreseeable future.

One last note for the OP ... ANACs pricing beats the other two hands-down. Something that isn't lost to me when contemplating sending in 10+ coins.

One minor point you might also consider is that NGC holders are slightly larger than others and may not fit in some storage boxes. I don't know about the size of the new ANACS holder. I am think of switching over to ANACS because of their special offers and the do not require ANA membership to qualify for some offers.

Just a suggestion, but if you want to test the waters, go to your local coin shop and see which TPGs they use. Have them send off a few of your coins and see which you like.

I have always shied away from ANACS until just the last couple months. Pleased would be a gross understatement.

Thanks for the input. I did start collecting modern coins that were graded from ANACS and will continue to do that. I am very impressed with the quality. And "yellow holder", what does that mean? Sorry noob here! LOL
