It's my first post in this forum, so forgive me if this has been covered a million times....

How can I tell if a coin is truly a clipped planchet, or if someone just decided to slice off part of it?

The reason I ask is that I have a 1927-D that was clipped by about 30%, but it's circulated. If someone ruined a semi key Merc, let's round up the posse. However, if it is truly a clipped planchet, why was it circulated?

Good question volfan. I too have a coin, a penny, that's clipped and circulated. I never thought of that. Hopefully you'll get a knowledgeable reply.
