I have recently been left a coin collection due to a passing in the family and was wondering how or where to find an honest value of some of the coins. I know they would have to be seen in order to get a true value, but just a ball park figure. Example I have a 1946 Wheat Back Penny, I know it can't be worth millions but I think it is woth more than 1 cent. Any help is greatly appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

Susanlynn9 Forum Mom United States 5877 Posts	Posted 09/20/2006 12:05 pm Value of coins is dependent upon condition. There is a 70-point grading system called the Sheldon scale. It goes from PR1 (Poor) to MS70 (Perfect). If you are able to post pictures of the various coins, we will be more than happy to help you grade them and evaluate them. For the most part, unless they are uncirculated, wheat cents are worth about 4 cents per coin. There are exceptions to this. Some of these dates are worth a couple dollars and some in the hundreds or even thousands depending upon the condition: 1909 VDB 1909S VDB 1909S 1911D 1911S 1912D 1912S 1913D 1913S 1914D 1914S 1915S 1922 Plain ( no mint mark) 1922 Weak D 1931S 1943D (doubled mint mark) 1944D (D over S) 1946S (S over D) 1955 Doubled Die Obverse (the doubling is VERY pronounced. The ones with slight doubling are considered to be a "Poor Man's Doubled Die and carry a slight premium but nowhere near the full doubled die. 1956D (D above a shadow D) Good luck!
