I've been seeing this in a few of the coins I search through. Same coins with the same mint mark/year, but the finish is different. Once again, sorry for the bad pictures. The top nickel has a sort of frosted finish. Can't really capture it with my phone, but you get the idea. Just want to know if this a natural occurrence or just normal wear. Under the loupe, it looks fine to me. Thanks!
Yeah, I run across those sometimes, mostly in the 2000-2004s. Not sure just why but some have an almost satin finish before the mint came out with the satin finish mint sets in 2005.
Take a look at Morgan dollars. When comparing coins from the same year and mint there are vast differences in the luster and the strike. No two are ever exactly alike even though they could have been struck in sequence of each other.
Hrmmmm....All right. Just seemed odd to me that I've been finding those years and the finishes were just so different without any apparent damage to the coin. . That's why I'm here. To learn! Thanks.
