Need Info On A Coin I Found. - Coin Community Forum

minderae New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 04/01/2011 06:49 am Hey all, this is my first time posting here so hopefully I got this in the right spot! My brother lives in Germany and found a coin while metal detecting. He say's the coin appears to be gold, it has a man riding a horse on the front, and the back looks like people holding spears. The only text that can be made out is "anvs". I know I don't have a alot of details for you all but I'm hoping someone can point us in the right direction of finding more info on this coin. Gold does not corrode and that coin is definitely corroded, most likely candidate is bronze. A diameter and weight would probably be helpful as well. Report this Post to the Staff

Sap Moderator Australia 16895 Posts	Posted 04/02/2011 01:01 am It definitely isn;t gold; the black deposits indicate this is the alloy the Romans called "orichalcum", a kind of brass. The only match for that rather fuzzy pic I can think of is a double-sestertius of Postumus, like this one on Wildwinds. Some more information might help confirm this: - What's the diameter? - What's on the other side?
