with such a low mintage, why is the 1955 d quarter not worth a premium? was it not made for circulation like the 1973 Ike dollar? or what is the reason for such a low price for a low mintage coin?
Just a guess on my part but since it is only 50 some years old and with a mintage of over 3 million it hasn't made the "premium" list. It will one of these days I suppose. Hopefully one of our Washington quarter Guru's will be along shortly.
Yes, it was minted for circulation. Other mintages were lower in 1955 as well- 1955P Franklin had the lowest mintage for the series and 1955 dimes had three of the four lowest mintages for the series. 1955 was the last year of San Francisco mintage until 1968 and there was probably quite a bit of hoarding for all 1955 coins which would explain lower than expected values.
