1835 Broken Quarter ? Help? - Coin Community Forum

twohawks Pillar of the Community United States 1551 Posts	Posted 05/03/2011 7:33 pm I was out and about today as it is raining and I could not re-roof my home. I collect Morgans and not much else, but I could not leave this one as well as 3 others. A 1916 D Quarter with a Retained Cud, a 1912 D dime with a rev. Retained Cud plus a die chip by the nose, and a 1937 D late die state 3 legged nickle. Like I said I do not do anything other then Morgans....But this thing has a break that runs fully across the obverse. Is this anything special Thanks for the help Report this Post to the Staff

nolawyer Pillar of the Community United States 763 Posts	Posted 05/03/2011 7:52 pm I believe that is a Browning-5 (B-5) 1835 quarter. This particular variety has some major die breaks on the obverse. I have one, but it looks like the die breaks on yours are more pronounced than mine so yours was struck in a later die state. I have seen even later die state examples where the breaks are huge. Unfortunately, the 1835 B-5 quarter is not one of the rarer varieties. Report this Post to the Staff

twohawks Pillar of the Community United States 1551 Posts	Posted 05/03/2011 9:06 pm I picked it up in a package type deal. 775. for the 1937 D 3 legged late die state upper AU, the 1916 D Quarter, 1912 D Dime and this thing.
