I don't have a large budget for coins
Most of the money goes into my 25cent collection
So for other series I collect by dollar value rather than grade
My silver dollars are a type set of $100 each coins
Nickel 5cents were done many years ago with a total budget of $150.
Large cents many many years ago for $100 total
Now I'm working on $20 each, fishscales, almost done george and edward, grades range from VG-MS,but the goal is a complete set not a uniform set.
Anyone else collect by price rather than grade?

Yes I collect on price point as well. I also have a limited budget for coins.
I have completed a year set for 1 cents (pennies) not all varieties but have one of every year ranging from VG to MS and Proof. I am now working on 5 cents. I have a large amount of post 1967 25 cents and would like to complete this set next. I just keep watching for affordable pre 1967 coins in any demonination. I would like to end with a complete year set of all denominations, but I think this will be tough to do on my budget.

Thats what I like is to be able to take out the binders (I use 2x2's and 3 ring binder pages to hold them) for pennies and page through them to look at all the different ones through the years. Obviously if money was no object it would be nice to look at all EF or better but what the, that is not the case.
Not impossible is right that is what collecting is about. If I had the money to go buy them all tomorrow then what would I do after that.

Being retired,I too am on a very tight budget and go for the cheapest coins I can get.
although I once in a while can't resist the gold collector coins from the mint.

DBM..

Yeah.. We don't have a big budget either..

We have a complete set of Canada ten cents from 1902-2011
with both 1902s 1903s 1909s 1913s 1951s 1953s of course not the '36 dot and the large date 1969.

We, got these coins quite a while ago, and have upgraded most but, that was our goal too, to just complete a set.

Funny because I fulfill collections for others based on dollar targets quite often. It's one of my favourite things to do. Picking the best coins I can within a price point is challenging and fun.

I consider my own collection complete, in other words there's nothing I want that isn't outrageously expensive or not of interest. I've gotten a little side tracked the past three weeks, I'm considering Aussie Florins as a chase.

I have a request for modern quarters in the want to buy section in case someone has something to spare btw.

Don't feel bad Little Money, "glenzy1" in Latin 'means poor person who cannot afford nice coins!'

Once I have enough posts I'll have a look there Ugly and see if I can help you out. Don't have the time or inclination to sell on ebay any more... have a bunch of low to mid grade Victorian and up that are the 2nd to 9ths of upgrades and batch buys looking for the final hole fillers in some sets. Keep hoping that one of my many nephews or nieces or god kids get interested in the hobby but no luck so far. Might as well find someone who can at least appreciate them rather then let them sit around. Is it pretty simple to post and respond to ads once you have enough posts? Post 1937 I would like to have at least 1 of every year (not necessarily every variety) in mint state. Back before 1937 I am a little less choosy on the grade :-)

Another one here with a very limited coin budget.

I collect Canadian cents(small and large), and nickels.

With the exception of the '26 and '28, I have the complete nickel set. The '64 extra water line is the only variety I have yet to find that can reasonably be expected to find in circulation.

I got all these CRH on the U.S. side of the border. So the most I paid was 5ยข a piece.

My budgeted limit for large cents is $2 each.

I named myself after my coin budget ;)

Well, not quite, but I have toned things way back. I haven't bought a collector coin in 6 months or more.
An AU-53 1858 20 cent just sold for $370 on a book value of $750. That's a pretty good picture of the
market right now. I would guess most people have had to tighten the belt a bit. Instead of buying cheap
stuff, I've just been refraining from buying at all. Next month I finally get to buy something I need.

Next month, there are a lot of great items to snag, in a buyer's market. I hope we are not bidding on the same item(s)...

I live and collect by the motto, " buy the coin that you can least afford, it will be the one that will pay off at the end!"
