And given the track record established by Chinese eBayers, the shipping costs, unstated for this auction, will also be fraudulent.
On the other hand, if it weren't for the potentially outrageous shipping costs, I wouldn't mind having an 1886-CC novelty "coin" as long as it didn't cost too much (I might go as high as 20 bucks). It would make a great teaching tool!

You are correct Fred, I wouldn't mind having an 86cc, you are also correct that the shipping might be $20! I found this on another board and one of the posters notified the seller and the seller admitted it was a "copy", still no revision in the auction and no mention that is fake.

I reported it to ebay as a fake and added it to my Watch List. Usually (but not always), when I report a China seller's coin as a counterfeit, fake, or otherwise not as represented, it is removed, usually within 24 hours. I presume others also submit such reports. If enough such reports are sent, it attracts ebay's eye and it eventually takes action. Fred

this coin was posted in the main coin forum section and I commented on them putting them in plastic also, I think even though these coins are fake they will draw more attention to them from unsuspecting buyers because they are putting these in plastic and all the new people seem to think if its in plastic its got to be alright no matter what kind of plastic its in. The only thing their slabs are missing is a grade, when the figure out that will get them more sales you can bet they will add that to the label as well

Yeah, that is different about this auction, it does have a grade of MS64.

Fred
The way I tried to report it, I couldn't because I had not bid on it.

ebay now has a "report this auction" hyperlink near the very bottom of each auction, mixed in with a bunch of other hyperlinks. After clicking on the link, there's a three-block cascading pick-and-choose line. To report this type of auction, select "Fraudulent listing", then "You suspect a listing is fraudulent but did not bid", then "Click continue button". Next page that comes up, click on the envelope under "Contact customer support" and a block and the auction number will come up which provides the opportunity to explain why a coin auction is fraudulent. I've submitted hundreds of such reports. The China auctions are easy to get withdrawn; the scam artists in the US are much more difficult (estatedoctor is a good example; I've harassed them with many fraud reports, but they keep on selling).

when the seller has in his auction (which is just a template that he just changes around but has some of the same information in it)that "the items in my store displayed the Chinese features. If you like Chinese antique and handicraft product, please don't miss this item." he is referring to items like this one, but just left the information in his template http://cgi.ebay.com/Chinese-Hand-Pa...ol_W0QQitemZ250049064468QQihZ015QQcategoryZ63555QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and this one http://cgi.ebay.com/REMARKABLE-FANC...UE_W0QQitemZ250049064690QQihZ015QQcategoryZ37931QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I do have to say I am surprised that majorbigtime has bid on this item, he acts like he knows almost like he knows what he is doing on CU forums

Well I just hope they don't get good faking NGC or PCGS or ANAC slabs. If that happens, then the stuff will hit the fan.

That's a very good (and scary) point. I would hate to have to check a serial number against a coin every time I bid on one.

Since I buy only online I do that to every coin I purchase anyway
