There have been times when I had to restrain myself from sending e-mail to an ebay seller to tell him what a jerk I thought he was being. Am I the only one this happens to? Like the guy who had several different listings for what he called "Liberty half dollars" but which the pictures revealed to be Franklins. Was he fooled by Ben's long hair? I think the bald pate should make it a dead give-away that it's not Miss Liberty on that coin. And I hate it when people put things in the wrong category -- single coins in "Collections/Lots" or Norwegian coins in U.S. coins or Half Dimes in the dollars. Then there are some sellers who give themselves names like Smith's Coins or ABC Coin Dealer and then give really ignorant statements about the coins accompanied by blurry, dark pictures taken at a 45-degree angle. I want to ask them if they think that's going to inspire confidence. But my all-time favorite is the guy who lists a coin worth maybe $10 that he starts out at 99 cents -- "What a bargain! No Reserve!" but he wants $11.95 to ship it. That's when I really want to send an e-mail saying, "Who do you think you're kidding?" So, is it just me? I'm willing to admit maybe it is.

No janknez, it's not just you. There are probably thousands who agree with you. I've seen some of the most ridiculous statements by ebay sellers trying to unload coins that are only worth fv, & surprisingly some novice buyers have been taken in by these low lifes. Example 1. Describing a common & very slightly off centre $2 coin as having a 'mule edge' & hoping people will bid on it thinking it is a mule. Lots did a few months ago & got well & truly ripped off. One person paid over $160 for a coin that was worth $2. Example 2. Seller overhyping things like tiny mouth or chin Cuds as being 'extremely rare' when they're as common as dirt. It just goes on & on. We just have to be thankful that we can refer to forum memberss if we're in any doubt about something we see & can't quite believe, but there's an awful lot of people out there who are still being conned. I've never reported an item on ebay, but have often felt like contacting all the bidders to tell them when it's a con. Against ebay rules, but ebay aren't interested in trying to clean up their act, why should we obey their stupid rules that only protect crooks? Any sellers with ott postage cost will never get any of my money. I've downloaded Aust Posts tables of costs, & with a set of scales, can work out how much postage should be, so anyone trying to pad out their bank A/C with excessive charges just hasn't got a hope. Actually, I don't see anything wrong with contacting sellers & telling them their freight costs are ridiculous. Might force them to pull their heads in & get real!

There are some that I admit are terrible sellers. Some sellers dare to slap several dollars extra for the postage since their item didn't sell too well. I personally don't mind to give a couple of dollars but when it hits 5+, I would get a bit annoyed, and when it hits 10, well I wouldn't bother to do business again with the seller unless the item that I bought have been too pitifully cheap.

Just admit that there are jerks in this old world and go on about your business on other listings. Don't give the guy the satisfaction of calling his/her attention to what ever it is that makes you boil. Who cares? Go on about your business and look elsewhere.

I avoid the jerks but sometimes I have to email sellers concerning their ridiculous shipping charges. I explain the fact I have shipped all over the world and it does NOT take $7.95 to ship a nickel in the U.S. to a U.S. address. At times it is concerning coins I would really like to bid on and I inform them of such but make a point to tell them they are costing themselves legitimate bidders due to what they call their "overhead costs" which is a bunch of bull! A bubble mailer can be bought at Walmart for less than 60 cents and mail costs may run around 70 cents for one coin and I am not dumb enough to play their greedy games. Just avoid the jerks and find legitimate sellers to do business with.

I agree with Crystal one hundred percent. If I see an overpriced shipping charge or anything else that looks kind of fishy (i.e. strange fine print), I just avoid the seller all together. I have to admit that I have purchased only a few dozen items on ebay, but have read enough to have an idea of what to avoid. This forum has helped me out a ton in this area. Since I don't buy a lot, I can be pretty choosy with who I buy from!

I am going to disagree with others on the shipping issue. I look at the coin and add what the shipping will be, and if it's still a good deal I go for it. I don't understand now buying a coin because of high shipping, if the price of the coin is low enough to make up for it. If shipping is free, but the coin is $35, why would I buy that coin over a coin that is $20 with $7 shipping?

I am gonna say as a seller, no matter what I sell (coin, camera, phone,or anything else) I ship priority because I always want my stuff the fastest way possible and I try to think everyone else would like the same. When I first started selling on ebay I didn't use priority, and I had to ship something from the east coast to the west coast and it took over 10 days for it to get there, so right there I decided never again would I do that because after so long the buyer starts to wonder where their stuff is. Now I charge (no matter what it is) 5.50 to ship anything that I sell, It costs me 5.40 to ship it priority because I add signature confirmation on everything. I also usually charge a flat rate of 1.50 on insurance and sometimes I end up paying out of pocket for insurance but sometimes I don't and that's fine with me

As OldDan says, get over it and move on I used to let this kind of stuff bother me to the point of rage. I think I've finally learned to just ignore it all, and buy ONLY from sellers who seem to know what they're doing, and who advertise their items honestly. That's probably why I don't bid on very much at ebay anymore Shipping charges too high? Don't bid on that seller's stuff. Obvious "stock" photos of something other than what is being auctioned? Don't bid on that seller's stuff. Item listed in the wrong category? C'mon, everybody around here is human and therefore prone to the occasional error. None of it is worth wasting precious moments of your life on.

I'm with thundercoin, I just factor shipping into the equation and look at the bottom line. I'm certainly not going to let shipping keep me from a good overall deal. Having said that, I also do like crystal64 and let sellers know if a prohibitive shipping fee keeps me from buying/bidding on a coin.

Well, I do, Old Dan -- and all of you who responded to this. I am not losing sleep over it. Sometimes I get annoyed, especially if it's something I think I would want to buy under other circumstances, but mostly it just makes me shake my head. Sometimes it makes me laugh. But whatever, I get over it in no time. I'm thinking about selling on ebay next year, and I do plan to be a model seller, never making any mistakes and always telling the truth. Well, at least I'll use good pictures.

I have recently sold a coin to a coin member here and he gave me a great feedback but emailed me to let me know he did not like the way I packaged. I was so happy to hear someone's true feelings on it that I now double wrap my ebay items . He was very nice to give me a postive feedback also. Thanks!

eBay, hmmm, where do I start. Well, I can start here I guess, I received only my 4th negative feedback today from another unscrupulous seller. Yet, he left me a positive a couple days before that for another item I bought off of him. I filed a dispute because he didn't send the other item I bought and paid for and he wouldn't return my e-mail requesting the item. So now, I have been on ebay 7 years and have 4 negatives from people who tried to rip me off. ebay won't do anything about it. They won't remove the negative unless I pay their Square Trade mediator $29.95 to contact his bum and get the negative removed or have the mediator look at all the evidence and remove it themselves. I got a negative because someone didn't follow through on what they said they were going to do. Where is the reasoning in all of this? I detest ebay for not doing more to protect the people who depend on them for a safe decent place to buy online but protect the bums who are ripping people off all in the name of fees. Yes, he is a powerseller with 17,000+ feedback and 250 negatives but when someone like him admits he is wrong by first leaving me positive for one transaction and then a negative after I file a complaint and after he refunds my money then there is obviously retaliation going on but ebay refuses to help. I am so sick of ebay, I hope they go out of business.

I have to disagree on the stock photo issue. As a seller (and photographer) it is way easier to use a stock photo unless you are selling an expensive or unique coin. If Shipping is clearly stated then don't complain. ebay sellers SHOULD be able to recover some or all ebay fees in shipping and HANDLING, even though it's against ebay policy, but it isn't against ebay policy to make a profit on S&H?.
