I bought a collection of P-L coins, a couple or three years ago, and all were in the plastic wrpas, like our mint sets used to be.

My question is: what is included in a P-L set, coins wise?
The ones I got were from 1965-early 2000's.

They were in 20-piece plastic page s, and were later placed in 2X2 flips, plastic wraps included, to keep them protected, and placed in boxes.

Any info would be appreciated,
Dick

Thanks for the info. I am going to try and put the sets back together, (or at least with the same type coins that wewe used originally. Then go through and see what I have. They came in in mint-wrappings, and were put into 2X2 flips), so I coule use the 20 pocket pages for FE/IHC cents. They were replaced with Canadian large cents, and were themselves replaced with the 1859N9 large cents. That is what I am involved in today. doing die research on the die-marriage varieties. Fascinating work!
I still come by and check the old US errors, and the Canadian error forums, but do not hang around much.
The only reason I am here, now, is because of recent surgery, I am not allowed near my coins! They are probably much cleaner than any of the rest of my collections. They have been cleaned very much, to allow any details that still remain, to be seen, and the die attributed.
There are a lot of them to go thru, not to mention the [proof sets, that have only been casually checked. I didn't have the equipment, not the knowledge then to search for, soooo.
I still see a lot of familiar monikers, here, so it is not like I am a "newcomer'. I lurk on several forums, all for the same reason. Friends, and what I might be able to contribute in return for all the help they have given me, over the years. I couldn't have done it without them!

Welcome back Dick... you might remember me from the Canadian Forum that we abandoned en masse... (SPP is an acronym to my old handle).

SPP, yes, I recognize many familiar face, scattered everywhere! nice to see you again!
Now for a bit of an up-date.
Last night, I couldn't sleep, so I decided to see what I have in the P-L sets.
Seems that I have a combination of '53-2008, and another '65 -2008. All have been "cut away from the original piece, but the wrap is still intact. They were 'loose'in the pockets, and I put them into flips, and then boxes, that holdabout 150 cent sized coins, or about 105 of the dollar, or crown sized coins.
My question; Is the P-L set the same as our "mint set? I have a lot of them, and wondered. There are also many in sets that are intact.
I also ran into a bunch of Proof sets, (pretty fancy wrapping for a set of coins). The weap, or case, cost more than the set of coins, I'll bet.
Anyway there are proof sets from 1972-1989.
Looking at trends, I was surprised at what they seem to be worth. That is why I am confused as to what the RCM means when they say Proof-like, Specimen, and other terminology, where or how to relate to them. Any help?
Just remembered the question I wanted to ask: Are the Uncirculatedsets the same thing as the P-L sets? I have a batch of then, (like our old proof and mint sets in envelopes, used to come in).
Being as they are all "wrapped up, and sanitary", I spent quite a while in the wee hours, making an inventory of whay was there. Not in each box, just what the boxes contained generally. I am not allowed to handle my Vickys, or even get near them, for some time yet. WTH, you only die once!
Better quit, I ran out of space....
Dick

Proof-like (PL) is an unofficial term for what the Royal Canadian Mint calls its Uncirculated or Brilliant Uncirculated sets. They're the ones with the plastic film over them, and were originally issued in paper envelopes.

Specimens are the ones in the leatherette and plastic cases issued from 1981 to present. Prior to 1981, they were officially called custom sets.

Proof sets are the ones in plastic with the red satin case liner, issued from 1981 to present.
