giano Valued Member 279 Posts	Posted 09/08/2011 2:51 pm Hi everybody I'm new on this forum,I'm interested in roman,greek and byzantine coins. I'd like to ID and know much about this byzantine weight 2.65g,diameter nearly 26 mm,I think is a trachy but I can't understand much about emperor's figure,I only can see the christ on the other side.is it genuine? This coin has a long crack on it but is still united,so I put it inside a little closed box with cotton for better preservation. thanks for help Report this Post to the Staff

echizento Moderator United States 23731 Posts	Posted 09/08/2011 5:53 pm , to the community. It is a Byzantine Trachy, But without any of the legend it's going to be a bit difficult to ID the emperor. I'll do some research an see if I can narrow it down. Report this Post to the Staff
echizento Moderator United States 23731 Posts	Posted 09/08/2011 7:54 pm My best guess is going to be Alexius I Comnenus 1081-1118, the robe that he is wearing is not one that I have seen before so I wasn't able to come up with a Sear number. Now,thanks a lot echizento,as you tell me ,I haven't find a similar coin(emperor's dress)on the net so I was not able to have a clear identification. Legend is consumed,I can't read anything,maybe there's a strange sign near emperor's left shoulder....can this coin be an ancient contemporary bulgarian imitative?do you think it's a genuine byzantine?
