Can anyone help ID this coin I found? Can't even begin to tell what it is, I found it in a bucket of oil in my garage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's a very commonly seen replica of an ancient silver coin from the Greek colony of Gela on the island of Sicily. The huge hole in the middle of the man-headed-bull's neck is not present on genuine coins of this type; it's put there by whoever made the copies, to hold a blob of glue for attaching onto a promotional card.

We see them here on the forum about three or four times a year; do a forum search for "gela copy" and you'll find over a dozen threads with similar examples. here's the most recent, Here's another typical example.

I don't think we know for sure where these copies came from, but they're so widespread they must have been part of some kind of Reader's Digest style promotional giveaway.

Thank you all for your posts. I actually couldn't make out the "copy" stamp until I took the macro photos. I sincerely appreciate your time.
Rest in Peace

I agree with Sap's opinion - as I remember these fake "coins" attached to promotional mailings in the '50's and '60's from Reader's Digest. In fact, I have a similar "Greek" fake somewhere in my token collection that I'm sure dates back about 60 years.
