I cant find anything online about a coin that I just got. This sounds and looks like silver but the only bicentennial quarters that I have found that are silver are 1976 S. Did I miss something?  |

Interesting, as far as I know and according to my Red Book the silver ones were only uncirculated and proof s mints. Not sure what you have there, did you weigh it? |

Check the weight on it if its not an S it could be a normal quarter that was plated with silver

My postage scale isn't precise enough. Any other ideas or do I need to obtain a better scale?

I think it's safe to say it is probably silver plated and was sold by a third party that way. It appears to be a clean coin as far as I can tell from the photos, but I wouldn't suspect it to be worth anything really. Maybe a buck for being interesting but I don't know, never seen anything like it up for sale.

Unless you can find that were S silver quarter errors in that set that didnt have an S I would probably just assume it to be plated. Put it next to a normal quarter should be a little bigger

I would suspect that you simply found one where the Nickel covered the edges completely. Rather a common occurance with clad coinage. Silver plating would make no CENTS so to speak.

Take a silver quarter and hold them together to check the color of the two side by side. Most likely what you have is what just_carl said.
