Recent Ebay Experience - Coin Community Forum

Senex Valued Member 291 Posts	Posted 07/20/2012 12:11 am I bid on and won a Canada $10 silver Year of the Dragon coin recently. The seller was a relative newcomer to ebay with less than 100 Stars feedback. At any rate, the coin arrived a few days later in an plain #10 business envelope! Fortunately the coin wasn't damaged. Unfortunately the red envelope the coin comes in was taped shut, torn and wrinkled - clearly not in the condition described by the seller. So I decided to try to educate the seller, writing to him expressing my displeasure and offering him some advice on shipping coins in future transactions, such as using a padded mailer (Jiffy Bag) and using the PayPal system to create postage and delivery confirmation. I warned him that shipping orders with proof of delivery is unwise on ebay. He wrote back thanking me and promising to send a replacement for the damaged coin envelope in the next mail. So hopefully, the replacement envelope will arrive soon and our young entrepreneur will have learned a lesson. Report this Post to the Staff

On a similar note, I too have done the same thing but usually involves advice on how to fill out a customs form. Such as 'numismatic item' instead of one international package I received once with 'one gold coin' written on the customs form where everyone could see it. Report this Post to the Staff

It wasn't the crown jewels but even so I felt the need to tell them it wasnt a good idea and they thanked me for my advice. I ordered 4 coins again off the same seller, lets see how these arrive (hopefully not floating loosley around against eachother) Report this Post to the Staff

I once bought an early spiderman comic for couple hundred and it was mailed to me in a normal white envlelope. It was then rolled up into a scroll and shoved into my mailbox. Arghhhh..
