Would Welcome Help On Identification

PeterPam1 New Member United States 12 Posts	Posted 01/14/2013 12:25 pm I really could use some help or guidence on identifying or getting pointed in the right direction toward itentifying the attached item...It ia a silver repousse medalette or amulet joined together with either solder or tin...images on both sides...I know that it is over 150 years old and could be very old...Iv'e had some trouble attaching both imsges on one posting so if both aren't here I'll attach to a second posting...I'm new to the forum and haven't got the handle on it yet...Any help would be appreciated...Peter Report this Post to the Staff

Ancientnoob Pillar of the Community United States 5155 Posts	Posted 01/14/2013 12:49 pm Not being an expert by any regard- I would say that the coin is not ancient. The metal looks very refined, I would doubt that the coin is authentic, I say this because you can see what looks like a casting seam on the rim of the coin. 99% of coins from antiquity are struck and I am almost sure this one is not. The motif of the coin does not match any at least that I am familiar with. The "medallion" thats what I will call it, doesn't seem correct for a struck piece. The details do not really appear worn, they appear kind of mooshy, indicative of casting. Maybe others can add more. It might be something out of 19th century Europe of what and where, I am not familiar. But any ways Welcome to out forum and hope you spend sometime with us here in the Ancient Section. PeterPam1 New Member United States 12 Posts	Posted 01/14/2013 5:30 pm Thanks for the help so far...I had tested it and it is silver....also the key point is that the piece has two parts an obverse with the two busts and the reverse with the soldier...both pieces were put together with either tin or solder as I happened to lay it on a quite hot surface and the solder or tin melted and the piece came apart in two pieces...I have subsequently had it soldered back together by a jeweler... The inside looks very much like it was repousse made....and then the two pieces were put together....The two pieces are very thin...There is little or no wear on the piece...Thought it might be a medalette of some form....Any further thoughts?
