So I've been cataloguing my coins recently and noticed holes where I dont have emperors(!). So, I know I dont have any in cleaning of these periods so I went to another source - my culls pile. Coins previously culled - falling apart, chipped and worn, have been pulled out. So far I've dragged out two new emperors - Valens and Julian II - which otherwise would have fallen apart and been destroyed. They are in 2x2s now and have a new life. These coins are nasty, dissolving and worthless, but one of the Valens I've found is very attractive even in its state.

This brings me up to 22 logged emperors! I hope to pull some more out of my cleaning - especially the 5th century ones.

Congrats on the 22 emperors! It's fun collecting those and maybe later you might have to purchase some outright that ain't uncleaned, but rather already cleaned and ID'd.

Some people donate culls to FORVM Ancient Coins. I think they donate them to some school education program dealing with history or coins.

Hey those are my thing, stay away!

Just kidding. Congrats on your finds and on having 22 emperors

Gil - I would donate to Forvm, but it would involve expatriating them to America, and they weigh quite a bit. I might soak them in oil for a while and then give them to a local school or something (not that theres much in here they could use except as a display).

Anoob - If I could make the dies, trust me I would!

VKnight - I got a whole load of them in 1 lot! 11 5th century and late 4th and 1 hadrian. Great luck with that one! Theres a Marcian in there, but I cant log it until I have it in hand again (he'd be 23). I've found the 5th century ones to be terribly fragile - I had a really nice bust, very late, undoubtably rare and it literally dissolved when I put it in oil. The patina itself was so porous it fell apart. You win some, you lose some.
