Demetri Cirillo, of Florida Currency and Coins, in Boca Raton, Florida was vacuuming out a rental van, after returning from the Lakeland, Florida Collectorama Coin and Currency Show, and spotted a large group of U. S. Treasury checks and Money Orders in a trash can at a Boca Raton gas station. Around $780,000.00 of these checks were recovered. They were all turned in to the Boca Raton Police Department, who are now investigating if the checks are real, and how they ended up in the trash can.

Forgeries for sure. Did you see all the MO's for $998? Just under a threshold.

Turning in those checks and money orders was his only option short of destroying them himself. Had he tried to cash any of them and they were bogus he would probably go to jail for fraud himself.

Fascinating. Whatever the backstory is, it's going to be good.

They have a group of recipient names to investigate, and there will be serial numbers to trace. There's the possibility of counterfeits, and the possibility of drug money laundering. I'm surprised this hasn't hit a wider news audience.
