Today I bought these coins. I am thinking about starting an Indian Head collection. Most of the Indian Heads seem pretty affordable, other than the 1877. Let me know what you think of the purchase. Thanks!

The IHC are my favorite collection. Most are fairly affordable, and you can constantly upgrade your collection as you come across better grades. I love it, highly recommend it.

The Indian Head has always been one of my favorite coins, and with the affordable prices, it just makes sense for me to start a collection.

You can easily put together a set for pretty cheap, the 1877 in AG or G can be had for about $300-$500, not too bad for the key. I highly suggest though doing a VF+ set still pretty affordable. Whatever you do, make sure to get original, choice surfaces, there are more than enough to go around that there is no point in getting the first ones you see. If you like varieties, you've picked the right set too.

Okay thanks for the information. Do you think the 1863 would grade VF? I agree, I would like to have them in about VF range.

I agree with all the above posts that this is a fun series and quite affordable with the exception of the 1866-1872, 1877, 1908-S/09-S. Problem free coins of the first group can be a challenge as there are more problem coins than original ones. A VG-VF problem free set is not out of reach financially speaking (that's what I'm doing). The 1877 will be the hurdle.

The 1863 looks about VF25-30 or so.

Nice coin. The early cupper nickel small cents intrigue me. Go for the complete set if you can!

I would actually grade it a little higher than vermontensium. I would say it's pushing VF 35.

It is hard to tell based on these pictures. When the coin comes, I will post some better pictures, but I would love for it to be VF 35.

Here is the 1863 Indian. I am very happy with the coin. What are your thoughts on the grade/value? The second group of pictures is more accurate as for as the color of the coin.
