False Shekel (Silver) From Czechoslovakia

I would like to ask the experts here if you know the origin of this Shekel and its possible date of manufacture. A little history about this shekel, its origin is Czechoslovakia and it has been passed down from generation to the next. Its structure is silver and was used as a medallion. I would like to find out how much this Shekel is worth in today's standards. Report this Post to the Staff

These "false shekels" are a very narrow field of numismatics; they aren't "real coins", so very few people know about them and even fewer seriously collect them. All I know about them comes from reading this American Israel Numismatic Association article. All I can say for sure about your piece is that it is not one of the very old types; this design, with the cup given "Greek" style handles, is late 1800s at the earliest. Get a jeweller to do a specific gravity test on it for you; that should tell whether it is solid silver or just silver-plated. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
