I was at the gas station and I saw a Wheat penny in the give/take penny tray but I felt it innapropriate to take it with the cashier staring at me. but I wish I would have had a penny to exchange it with.

So apparently 1955-S wheats do turn up in change occasionally.
I've got mine from a non-collecting distant relative, in a context that made it highly likely that they found it in change; but I never really believed such a coin could possibly turn up that way. Your story makes it slightly more likely.
