I am thinking about getting a metal detector.
Could you folks provide some advice on something a beginner could use that would help me find coins/jewelry and such?
Looking for something under 300.00 that would be easy to use and good.
thanks

Garrett Ace 250 or 350, Fisher F2, Teknetics EuroTek Pro, Whites Coinmaster all fit under $300 and are good beginner units.

For $300, I would seriously consider a used machine. There are hundreds of nice detectors out there that sit in closets collecting dust, after only one or two uses. Buying used will get a better machine for less price.
I saved and bought a used Minelab Explorer II, although I paid close to $500 dollars. It spanks $1,200 machines and has found hundreds of silvers and old deep coins and relics. Watch Epay or Craigslist for deals.

Harry, Is that you? I haven't heard from you in ages...
I read recently that the largest ever gold nugget was found in Australia.

I second the Garrett Ace 250. Best bang at that price point.

I know many people that have used the ACE250 and liked it, I had a fisher F2 for a while and that was ok too. My friend has a nice bounty hunter that has served him very well too.

I run a ATGOLD and this has paid for itself over and over numerous times with jewelry old coin and good scrap copper, brass, bronze etc.Depending on the settings, I've toned at as far as over 10 inches deep on silvers, good luck and HH.
