Hi. I'm new to coin collecting. Just payed off my mortgage a month ago and decided it was time for a hobby to spend some of that new-found money. I had some old Canadian pennies I saved years ago so I thought I would start collecting there. I also love some of the NCLT coins (I think that's the right term...)at the RCM and purchased a few. Don't know if that's a great investment choice though after some of the forums I've been reading here. Looking forward to any advice more experienced collectors may be willing to share with a newb!

to CCF! The best advice I can offer is to start slow and try to research the coins you want to purchase beforehand so you know what to expect. Use the archives and learn from our mistakes, many of the members here will openly discuss their mistakes and that is a tremendous resource.

to CCF Second the advice to research things first. Also, figure out what interests YOU. It's YOUR hobby so whatever interests ME is irrelevant. Understand that collecting coins (or NCLT or whatever) is a HOBBY not an investment.

I see you have been reading the forum. I too jumped in after paying off my mortgage. Do go slow on the nclt, there are many bargains on the secondary market!! Main thing is to have fun and truly enjoy each piece. Start threads to ask any questions you may have. Tell us what you prefer collecting, like maybe silver dollars.

NCLT is the correct term but I like the classic pre-1964 stuff mostly, have bought and sold a lot of Canadian in my life. Welcome aboard!

Welcome, eh. Many collectors coin roll hunt (CRH). I'm going to start searching 'junk silver'. Learn and don't get burned!
Enjoy!
