I notice various news articles forewarning of a possible postal strike involving a total shutdown of all CP services. Anything in transit at the time would be securely stored away for the duration as well.

While I don't recall the impact to RCM during past postal strikes but considering their sibling-like relationship to CP, also a Govt Crown Corp, I'd be very surprised if alternative delivery of NCLT orders would be arranged with private companies in the event of a postal strike.

Does anyone recall?

But if the strike occurs it won't be a big deal for most people, at most just a longer wait, but might not be the best time to order online NCLT intended as impending gifts.

I am getting notices in my paper billings stating that I am still responsible to pay in case of a postal disruption.

It really is a lockout. CP wants to recoup some benefits before negotiations.

Yes you're right, it's a lockout not a strike. During past postal disruptions I also recall notices whereby customers are still held responsible for payments and such. Hopefully it will be resolved shortly although it will be nice not to have my mailbox filled with junkmail for a bit.

hmmm... if all are on strike who will ensure "securely stored away"?

It looks like RCM is using FED EX.

I just received a shipping notice email from RCM with a tracking number for Fed Ex.
Now I wonder what happens if I'm not home? If Canada Post attempts a delivery to my door and no one answers the package can be picked up the next day at my local Canada Post Outlet. I don't know what Fed Ex will do.

They're supposed to leave you a notice if you're not home. Then you can either pick it up at the FedEx office, or they will offer another attempted delivery.

The free O Canada Gift Set being shipped Fed Ex Priority Overnight. If it was me, I'd ship a free item with something else. If I'm not home and need to go get the package, the nearest Fed Ex office is about a 45 minute drive away whereas the Canada Post Outlet is 2km.

If you miss the FedEx delivery, I would tell them that you can't drive to their office to pick it up (they might try that approach first). Then request a time for another delivery.

Very possible FedEx will just leave it by your front door. The cost to attempt redelivery is often more than the slight risk of theft.

Just received my first delivery from Fed Ex. On the tracking web site, it had listed that NO signature was required. However, when the package arrived, there was a sticker half the size of the box stating the Signature WAS required. I don't think they would have left it in the door and not get the signature. It wasn't even an expensive order, just the free O Canada set. Now I see the Lucky Loonies $5 pack is sent out with Fed Ex too, except I don't have a tracking number this time.
