At the end of the day, they are worthless pennies wrapped in "special" paper. I'd rather buy gold with that kind of money.

Actually at the end of the day they are worth whatever someone is willing to pay, same can be said about anything you buy , people have no problem paying $150 for 1oz of silver thats worth like $20 of silver which could be worth only $5 oz some day if the price falls enough , heck gold could be worthless in 100 years, probably not but you just never know lol.

At this price if it sells close to asking the chance for these rolls to appreciate any further is very slim, there are at least 20,000 rolls maybe more, there is just no numismatic value to these coins, just a clever RCM marketing label.

As John100 said, these pennies have no numismatic value at all given that there are millions of these. I'm sure everyone who wanted a 2012 penny or roll (whether it be specially wrapped or not) got one, so this box of 50 for $8000 is just redundant and overpriced. But hey, if you want a box of pennies and you have $8000, its your money, go nuts!

Diamonds aren't particularly rare or intrinsically valuable. Now go try to trade a rock from the garden for your wife's engagement ring. GL.

Marketing or not, the fact is the special wrapped rolls sell for significantly more than 50 cents and much more than regular rolls.

I'm more curious about how this seller got a full box in sequence. I'd have to assume a dealer was involved since there was a household limit of one per from the Mint and even dealers were limiting sales to 5 or less. Could it be a RCM employee is involved?

The only other box I have seen was a pic posted by the guy who had COA #1. At least I think it was full box IIRC.
