I was looking through some coins that were put away for the last couple years and found my Men's Hockey coin in the Petro Canada package had some really cool toning. The coloured side of the coin has turned gold. The other side is still the same colour as the day I got it. Now, really cool, I read prior in this tread, there may be some kind of seal only visible with UV light, so I looked for it, but couldn't find it. What I did find was the side of the coin that was now gold coloured was green with the UV light. This coin is still sealed in the original Peter Canada plastic, with the coin sealed in the card.

Neat find! It appears to be a "raised 2" variety as well! I found one in my change a couple years ago! Low mintage of 200,000.

They put a blob of plastic stuff on the coloured side to 'protect' it that causes that gold effect over time. You also see it on the coins that are put in book marks etc.

I've noticed some ebay sellers who display misleading photos of the 2009 Men's hockey coloured coin to make it appear gold, for example 131867252668.

But I didn't know they could actually tone that colour. An interesting find for sure. Congratulations, especially notable given discoveries of this sort are a unique bonus to the ordinary, and what's otherwise stashed away out of sight!
