Copper is about the same in malleability as sterling silver. Silver is softer than copper but is not ideal for jewellery or pragmatic items since it is soft, hence the alloys (90-93.5% is good enough, but they tarnish). There is no perfect metal. Thinking back, just handling pennies at a till was enough to do it. Perhaps it might be sealed with a clear coat that adheres to metal.
