77 Quarter With Missing Edge: Error Coin Or Damage?

Shoesting New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 02/20/2017 02:20 am As you can see, where a normal edge should be, there is an indentation instead. This causes the coin to look kind of Ike a sandwich and the edge looks almost like rails. I thought it was damaged but couldn't imagine what could lead to this kind of damage, so thought I'd post t here and give it shot. Thanks in advance :) Report this Post to the Staff

Druu Pillar of the Community United States 1000 Posts	Posted 02/20/2017 03:43 am Do the obverse and reverse faces look polished on the raised parts, but really dark on the recessed parts? If so, my guess is the coin was in a fire. Copper has a lower melting point than nickel, so it would have melted out. The rims of the coin look polished, so my guess would be someone tried to clean up the coin? I've only come across this once before in a box of half dollars. The half I found was missing most of its copper core, and some of the nickel had even burned off, or was weakened sufficiently for someone to rip pieces of it off. Report this Post to the Staff
