It is our sad duty to report to you that your object is neither ancient, nor a genuine coin. It is a (rather crudely designed) mass-produced brass replica of a Spanish-colonial silver 8 reales, also known as a "pirate piece-of-eight". This particular design, with what I call the "owl-face crown", has been seen on the forums several times before; this was the most recent example. We don't know exactly who made them, but it was probably given away in a Reader's Digest promotion or something similar, or perhaps sold as a souvenir at a "pirate-themed" tourist site.
Now, unfortunately, it is your sad duty to pass this news on to her.
