I have three different mis-cut C$ bills - 1979 $20, 1971 $10 and 1973 $1. Any thoughts on what the values might be, or how to determine the value, if any. Thanks.  |

The misscuts that contain colour bars are really expensive, the 10 and 20 is kind of cool, on a good day 200 bucks or a little more

If each note is in UNC condition, the $1 would be about $150 (& the $20 up to $200 as John posted). The $10 could fetch up to $175 in UNC but this wouldl depend on how dramatic the error actually is & from the image posted it doesn't appear very eye-catching to me. Significant discounts (from the estimated BV given) should be expected if the notes are circulated. |

I'm not saying that this is the case here, but what is stopping someone from intentionally mis-cutting a sheet of 1973 $1's, which were sold by the mint, and passing them off as errors?

you could just check the serial numbers, the uncut sheets, have distinctive numbers.

Nothing is stopping them, and unfortunately, such fake errors have been seen on ebay. As "silverwolf" suggests - it is imperative that you keep track of the prefixes that were issued as sheets when purchasing errors that are out of register or mis-cut. First, no 2 letter prefixes or Lawson/Bouey sheets were released. Be careful with Crow/Bouey sheet releases which include prefixes: BFD, BFK, BFL & BAX ECP, ECR, ECV, ECW & EAX |
