Help Identifying Gold Greek Coin - Coin Community Forum

Raywillis New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 10/22/2008 09:47 am I am hoping someone can help with identifying a coin found on a military construction project in Greece. The coin was sent to my father in law by his brother; we believe in the early 60's. It has not yet been tested but, I believe that it is gold. Any help with age and confirmation of country will be greatly appreciated. Possible identification: Poseidon right on obverse; Nike right on reverse? Possible origin Boethia, Thebes? This is a bronze coin from ancient Athens, circa 140 BC; the letters alpha and theta on the left side of the coin is the abbreviation of the city's name. Click on this link and scroll halfway down the page, to the brown entry titled "Kroll_088", and you'll find a coin just like yours: Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. I may have already looked at the coin you gave me the link to but, I would have gone right over it because the profile of Zeus didn't look the same until I examined it much closer. Thanks again.
