I am not a coin collector, but I have received a bag of random coins from a relative. I am not looking to make money off of these, but rather research the coin and the times they were circulated during. Could someone give me information on this coin that I can further search on google for?

The coin says:

On front:
Has a lion wrapped in a circle with a crown over the lions head. It has the following on wrapped around the outside of the coin

"FRID.IIII.D.G.REX.DAN.NOR.V.G."

On back:
VIII
Skilling
Danske
17 (crosshatches) 30
NBF

The biggest problem I have with this coin, is that it is in horrible condition. Very worn (again not looking to sell, just research). So the verbiage I have listed above is what I have found in my 5 hour research that makes sense for what could be on the coin.

Any help or information on this coin would be AWESOME!

Thanks in advance!

- Jason

I think you have a pretty good idea of this coin!
The ruler of Denmark-Norway at the time was Fredrik IV (Fridrik IV/IIII)
With the Norway coat of arms on one side, I'm guessing the coin was made for use there.
The condition isn't that bad for 279 years. I know it's silver, but perhaps someone can quote you the content.

Thanks a lot for the input.... Any phrases u can offer for me to use with google searches to find more info? I hold this coin with such a past, that I want to know more about it.... Is that KM# listed something that designated this series or coin?

Thanks again for your time!

The KM# comes from the Krause Catalogs of World Coins and designates that coin type for that country during that period. These catalogs are available at http://www.krause.com. You can also do a search for the coin at http://www.coinarchives.com.
