I sent in a large submission to ICCS and a few coins included are family heirlooms from a friend/collector. This 1953 was alongside the lot. ICCS graded this as MS-60 cleaned

I don't pride myself in being amazing, or even subpar for that matter but I fail to see how it was cleaned. It was removed from an old 2x2 which had the window cracked thus the toning noted. Just not understanding the cleaned portion. Maybe I'm oblivious here.

Impossible to tell whether the coin has been cleaned from these pics.

Do like the coin. Given the posted images, I'm not immediately seeing evidence of a cleaning.

Normally, I would resubmit along with the comments about how the toning got there. However, the coin is a NSF and worth little more than BV at 60 so if it were to cost you more, it isn't worth it. No TPG is perfect, but ICCS makes some real boners.

Can't give an opinion based on those photos.

ICCS often netgrades and doesn't list cleaning in the notes.could be an error (did you submit another 1953 dollar?), it's possible they got it mixed up.

There might be something hiding at alternate angles.

I tend to agree that a cleaning is unlikely though there's been 71 years during which time someone could have done so. But the faint stippling across the entire surface suggests that this has not been cleaned recently and the patch of extreme toning, likely due to a hole in the 2x2 indicates that it's been sitting undisturbed for a considerable chunk of time.

Ultimately though, I agree with Okiecoiner. This is a perfectly collectable coin but not worth sending to a TPG. Even if it were an MS-64 it would not command more than $60. And, while the details are excellent, the eye appeal is on the low side due to that toning splotch - sale price would likely be well below Trends.

Keep it, enjoy it and, hey, maybe by the time your grand children are interested it will be worth a fortune!

Usually if ICCS noted cleaning on a flip it looks like someone took an SOS pad to the coin. If you can't see any obvious signs it's cleaned (obvious to the naked eye) then I'd guess maybe it's a mistake on their part. They are not well known for looking closely for cleaning. The 60 is a weird grade and does tend to make me think they net graded it, because a 60 tends to look like it got ran over on pavement. And yeah there is no way we can tell cleaned or not cleaned from those photos. We'd need to see the coins from all angles in various light to see if there are hairlines.
