Comments Using The Aurotest Ats 3000 For 1kg Gold Bars' Authentication

The physical dimensions of a 1kg gold bar 'should' be to 40 mm X 80 mm X 18 mm although I would put a fudge factor of an additional 10 mm on the thickness to get an answer to my question that would cover all bases. I am concerned that there could be tungsten, for example, embedded within any gold bar. That is because of the specific gravity tungsten is virtually the same as that of gold.

There is a facility that is creating some 1000 g 24k gold bars with seemingly varying dimensions. I am looking for a non-destructive way to test the composition of these gold shapes of these dimensions. Would the following equipment be adequate to verify whether the bar is 24k or some other lower karat number? How deep from the surface of the bar could this machine reliably detect the presence of tungsten?
