Help With 1871 Fractional Gold Jewelry

trdhrdr007 Pillar of the Community United States 2335 Posts	Posted 02/23/2025 4:59 pm A friend of mine wanted me to look at a pin with what looks like a fractional gold coin on it. The reverse is covered with what looks like solder but the leaves in the wreath are clear. The obverse has obviously been polished (reflective fields) and a lot of detail is worn off. I struggled to get obverse photos. I'm including a few different pics none of which show the remaining detail. I'm hoping someone can give an authenticity opinion based on my bad photos. A fairly common fractional. These fakes are sometimes referred to as 'jeweler's copies' which I think is a somewhat quaint euphanism for "fake". With the inexperience of someone like myself in this series, I need to rely of the assistance of a experienced professional numistmatist.
