I was on the Royal Canadian Mint website looking at the new Emanuel Hahn's Original Sketch 5oz silver coin. It was disappointing to see the mint quote the wrong sizes of the original medals. They note the presentation medals are 77mm, when they are actually 54mm, and the silver and bronze medals as 38mm when they are actually 32mm. It looks like someone from the marketing department did an internet search and copied what AI listed. Unfortunately AI is pulling from the Calgary Numismatic Society, which is incorrect.

The London Coin Centre copies verbatim the paragraph from the CNS page, except adds one more sentence at the end. They should know better as well.

I was thinking the medium bronze is slightly smaller than the silver. I got home and measured. The bronze is just under 31mm while the silver is just over 32mm.

I recently republished an article on the Royal Visit medals, so it's fresh in my mind. Wayne Jacobs wrote an article for the Mid-Island Coin Club in 2004. I republished it in the June 2025 Edmonton Numismatic Society's newsletter. The School Medal (free to all Canadian students) was spec'd at 1" (26 mm) diameter, the Bronze Souvenir Medal was 1 1/4" (31 mm), the Silver Souvenir Medal was 33 mm, and the Presentation Medal was 2 1/8" (54 mm).

I sent them an email about the issue 2 weeks back. I never got an answer. I own the Tombac and the Silver. I can confirm that they are indeed 54mm.

The mint straight plagiarism a website (Calgary Numismatic Society) which the info is completely wrong
