Sadly, kids are not taught enough history in the schools these days IMO.
And it is going to get worse. Latest instructions from the NEA to teachers is when teaching about the Holocaust, to not make refence to the Jewish people. They say to focus on the other groups such as the criminals, the gypsies, the homosexuals etc. that the Germans rounded up as sent to concentration camps. Yes they did that, but they were concentration camps not death camps. There's a difference. Yes members of the other groups did die in the camps, but the Holocaust was the systematic attempt to exterminate the Jews. How do you teach about the Holocaust and not mention the Jews? "The Germans rounded up these various groups of people and shipped them off to camps. One group was segregated out and sent to special camps to be killed, but the other groups were badly treated in the concentration camps and some of them died as well." "Too Much? Maybe we shouldn't mention the group that was segregated or the special camps?"
The Jews said "Never forget" Eisenhower wanted the conditions in the camps filmed extensively because if they weren't "within ten year there would be people claiming it never happened", and now it is being actively cut out from the teaching of history.
