I sold this coin on ebay back in February as a raw piece noted it was a dark toned obv 1. Buyer sent it to ICCS and sent me this photo today. Has anyone seen this notation from ICCS before?  |

when you see that you know someone monkeyed around with it. obv.1 does not exist. maybe dbm can chime in

A friend of mine sent a 1921 5 cents that probably would grade vg-8 to ICCS. It came back uneven surfaces no grade. I asked the owner about it and he said he sent it through a dealer and he said he took a hawthorn to it. I did not see the evidence of scratch marks but maybe a cleaning. It was a real downer.

Pretty sure the 1871 H Obverse 1 does exist, it's just rarer than the Obverse 2. Or Charlton and Saskatoon Coin Club site (so informative!) are wrong.

I've collected Canada large cents for 30 years and, of all the things that I've tried, a hawthorn thorn kinda sideways, easily removes what we all call the "Vicky gunk". It's removed from the larger nooks and crannies, as well as "hard" verdigris, but I never let the tip of the thorn touch the planchet itself. The coin won't appear cleaned at all unless you overdo it. Hawthorn thorns evidently have uses other than scratching the bejesus out of you if you have to remove some branches.

I believe now the seller can see his sold items for the last two full years from today's date - in the sellers hub reports. And as a buyer you can see the items you bought for the past few years - for example I see stuff I bought in 2018. Now the pictures wont be in the original resolution, but still good enough |
