that first nickel looks like PMD, the second one-- not sure what that is, if it's a lam error it's pretty crazy. I've never seen that before. curious. greetings from key west. I have a friend in corvallis. |

 to the CCF, Jezirabid! Your first coin looks like it got hit with a meat tenderizer. The second was worked over with a wire wheel. But at least they are 35% silver! Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

to the CCF Going forward, please show only one coin per thread. It helps keep the discussion focused. You may start as many threads as you wish if you have multiple coins to show. Yep - that 1943-P is well worn and simply damaged. Its value is in the 35% silver content. My impression of the 1944-S is that is damage. Selective grinding perhaps? I look forward to other views. I moved your thread to the US Modern V/E forum. |

to the CCF Yes, both are just damaged quarters worth the silver value. There is nothing there that could have happened when the coin was struck. |

Both coins are just damaged. PMD. Only worth their silver melt value. Errers and Varietys.

Second one looks like maybe a file was used. Those grooves are pretty deep.

I'd agree with the I I I I, some kind of happy hammerer.
I appreciate your replies on the wiped off face of Jefferson - I am not so sure. Y'all probably would know better, but it's quite smooth, the grooves actually are not deep though they look kind of like it in the photo. It's almost like it was melted hot and wiped with something and cooled. The other side has zero damage or tampering. I guess it will remain my mystery overall. You're probably right, but there will always be a question in my mind.
Either way, I like it and holding on to it. Cause I love Jefferson :p

Thanks Mr. Pink - I love Florida!
I have to go up near Corvalis before the fall to look for a Yew tree. Oregon always seems to bring challenges on a regular basis as far as nature goes ;p I usually end up in a thicket of blackberry bushes ha.
