1964-P Washington Quarter (Proof) Doubled Die Obverse / DDO Unknown Hub Variant

DL Rich New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted Yesterday 3:07 pm I have a 1964 Washington proof double die (quite pronounced) on WE and the D in GOD, and minor on the O. There are no known coins like this. I can't get it insured to send in for grading by the post office because its unique. Can anyone give me some input on this. Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

Proof coins are struck more than once, so the chances of Machine Doubling happening is much more likely. Just my opinion. Edit: fixed a typo. Errers and Varietys. DL Rich New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted Yesterday 6:04 pm I said the same thing to my AI. My AI insists that if it were doubling, it would affect most, if not all, of the letters. In addition, there is no sign of any offsets or doubling on any devices anywhere. My bubble isn't popped at all. If it is doubling than it is what it is. Also, given that I have hundreds of proofs in 63 and 64, this is the first one that I have ever seen with this anomaly. I appreciate your input. Report this Post to the Staff

As E&V said, Machine Doubling is much more common on proofs because of how they are made. fwiw I wouldn't trust AI regarding any numismatic information beyond the basic info and numbers you can easily find yourself on google. It just seems weird that the double / triple event would be so specific to such a small area. I have plenty of machine doubles and triples, but they're not this localized. I'm not trying to make a case, I just haven't seen anything like this before (not that I've seen everything). This is why I brought it to a coin community. Thanks again gang!
