This is my first post so please excuse any impropieties, taboos. I welcome constructive criticism.

I was about to roll some quarters and decided to look for errors before proceeding. I began with Notable Americans and the Alabama Tuskegee Airmen quarters.

Beginning my exam with 3.5x lighted glasses I found something unexpected on the two P-51 Mustangs. Initially, Gemini could not validate what I was seeing and put it off to grease or metal fragments. But what I found below the back of the cockpits and just in front of the Army Aircorps Star and Stripes insignia was very distinct.

On the larger plane in the foreground is the number "2". On the plane in the background and even smaller is what looks like a "4".

Getting deeper into AI, I learned about Master-Die Artifacts and Master Design Artifacts left behind by final proofers when things are so small they don't get caught and erased before the die goes to the CNC machine.

I'd like to hear of more microscopic forensics focused on numismatics.

The images are from two separate quarters.

I'm not sure if you are asking if this is an error or just part of the design but it is exactly that, part of the design, it will be on all business strikes. The closeup I have below is just a random coin I pulled up on PCGS and the link for it below too. Let us know if you have other questions beyond this.

PCGS link. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...en-np/857052

The 2 and 4 are part of the design.
Also do not refer to AI for information on coins. There is
so much misinformation that they are not even allowed
on this forum.

agreed, part of the design for the coin.
But numbers wer generally placed on the tail of each plane and a Military code will be in front and behind the Air Force insignia like the image below: LH-O

To CCF! It's part of the design. It's normal.
