Came across this one while box hunting and I have not seen another like it. I think it's just a very strong impression of reeding on the obverse, but I'd like some second opinions. I would think it would take a lot of pressure to make this strong impression, but don't have a clue where that would come from. The edge reeding appears normal. There's a couple of slight impressions on the rim of both obverse and reverse. I'm 92% sure it's just PMD, but thought this would be the right forum. .     "I like money. I can't believe you like money, too. We should hang out."

Probably a well placed Reed Mark.

This would be a reed mark - probably from another half dollar lying flat on top of this one. This can happen if this coin was at the bottom of the collection bag when the other coin landed on it - then as the bag filled up the pressure dented your coin with the reeds

I looked at this topic/post about an hour ago, and still can't get my mind around it. Quote:

That was my first thought but then I feel due to the length the "top" coin would have to roll over the surface of the imprinted coin. Roller42 did you check out this coin with a loupe? Does it show signs of pushed metal? That would then equal Reed Marks. Wondering if this could be a strike through? Here me out, could the clad layer of a previously minted half break off from the reeded area and flip onto the next planchet before being struck?  Nevertheless, fascinating coin....keeper for sure Edited by Greasy Fingers

How about this for a thought? Maybe this coin was once part of a mint set and the marks are from the cello crimping machine. (Just tossing out ideas here ) |

sounds reasonable, seeing how the marks are straight, not curved, and are at the very edge of the coin.
