Thanks spyro - I have many transferable skills (just not Sales or admin work ) I've worked in the electronics field (Graduated DeVry Institute for Electronics with a 4.0 GPA) Then got into Construction There I can do just about anything (if my back allows it) Drywall, low voltage, High voltage, Fiber Optics, Data center construction. Framing and most finish work.

But I'm currently SSDI due to my disabilities and I'm not allowed to work - maybe when I get to full retirement age (in 3 years) and the SSDI turns into SSI I'll try and go back.

You union? I'm LU26, I know LV is pretty competitive right now compared to job calls for inside wiremen but I gotta imagine there's job calls at the hall, especially for highly experienced techs

dang straight! AC usage is for wimps, when I see candles in the house start to liquify then I turn it on.

Naw, I'm not Union - never been. And I'm sure there are jobs out there that would take me in a heartbeat, but 20 years + in construction just beat me down, so for now, I'll manage on what I have and enjoy my dogs, and try to get a lot of work done on this house I finally bought. So all my skills are going to that.

Starting with a block wall re-build that I already tore out because the workers that installed it did a crap job and the columns have broken loos and it wobbled threatening to come down on its own. So I'm out in front of that possible mess and rebuilding it properly and then just need to attach a new wood fence to it (for privacy and keep my dogs in the yard. You can see the progress on that here: https://goccf.com/t/483166&whichpage=27#4477029 (I had to tear out half of my fence in order to knock down the blocks and rebuild it by making a 90 turn for 3 feet then back to the house as a temporary containment of my back yard while I get this done Look here to see my fence re-alignment I did: (just be sure to scroll through a few pages to see it all) https://goccf.com/t/483166&whichpage=25#4470710
I'll be ordering 7 80 pound bags of quikrete mix for the base of the new blocks and to core fill the blocks 200, I'll buy about 3 80lbs bags for the build up of the brick wall (that may be over kill, but I can use it later on other stuff if needed). I just don't want to come up short before I'm done

Things like digging a trench 3 fee deep to extend a sewer line to my back yard for a dual purpose use Pool back wash and draining when needed, and as an RV dump out. For that job, I have to cut my drive way under my carport to get to the main line that dumps to the city. Then back fill the trench and re concrete the carport concrete

Then right after that I'll be closing in my carport into a garage/work shop (which I need desperately) Where I'll be running electrical wiring from my main panel to outlets in the garage, plus lots of CAT6 wire for hard hook-ups to my network, plus for adding cameras in front of the new garage and inside it as well.

Then after that, I need to dig a 2 foot trench from the side of my house to my pool equipment for a natural gas line for a future pool heater (water gets down to the mid 50 degrees in the winter) This also requires a saw cut to get under the concrete patio slab to run a 1.5 inch conduit for the required gas line.

There is lots more I want to do but that is a long way done the line. I'll be happy if I can accomplish the 4 things above before the end of next year.

Seems like you are going to retire. Sounds like a good idea as I know from my brother who is 58 that job searching is a beast!

One skill I am very happy to have developed when I was a kid was music skills. I play organ and at a church and competent enough to teach a choir some easy to intermediate music (and flail my hand steadily enough to give them a beat, my conducting technique is subpar). One does NOT have to make a career of an avocation they love (and I do take it seriously, I compose classical music when time permits) but one should keep up their skills as they can offer a nice supplement to SSDI.

So as to routine, another idea (and I had suggested teaching as a sub but seems that isn't your cup of tea) is to think of skills which you could earn some cash part-time or freelance.

Oh and PS, one of the best times of your life to start learning an instrument or to sing (the latter you can do just joining a church choir). It really boosts your brainpower and as a secondary result your overall health. Plus playing music for your own enjoyment can be an excellent way to help let off anxiety and anger (it doesn't entirely resolve the sources of these feelings it but it really helps you manage these feelings and find a needed release. If you stick with it you can also enjoy music making with others - just getting to the point of playing easy pop songs and hymns is a great way to gather a few friends for sing-a-longs while you accompany them at the piano.).

I've always wanted to learn to play the banjo, but I'm Bass-ackwards (southpaw) and finding an upside down banjo is not as easy as one would imagine.

However Music plays a HUGE part in my well being - where ever I'm at, I have some playing

I have been approved for SSDI as of Aug 01 so waiting on firs check next month. I AZ it is tax free and I am also 100% Disabled with the VA so I get $4200 from the VA as well so as soon as the SSDI starts rolling in, I will no longer be living on a negative budget anymore.
