The fact that very sharp individuals at doubleddie.com call it a "feature" leaves it to your imagination, because if they don't know, I surely don't.
The fact that it is the only anomaly on the coin and it's not at the center, where class 9 doubled dies typically appear, I would say a die chip that just happens to have somewhat straight edges or possibly a localized clash, which seems improbable. Pic below. Cool find though.
